The missing kitten
Late at night, Clara and Carl were watching a movie and suddenly they heard a loud crash. They were’nt worried about is beacause they thought that it was their kittens, founcing around upstairs. So that night, they went to bed without any worries.
“Carl!Come quick!” Clara screamed. She
was hovering over the basket that their kittens were in. One was missing. “I’ve
looked everywhere and I can’t find them!” Clara said sadly.
“I’ll call Detective Bob, he’ll find
the culprit!” So Carl called Detective Bob and he said he’d be on his way.
Bob arrived ten minutes later.
“Describe what happened last night,” he ordered.
Carl and Clara explained to Bob what
happened. “It was at precisely 11:00 at night. It had to be someone breaking
in!”
“Yes, that’s probably what it was,”
Bob reasoned. “I’ll find out who was out at that time.” He slipped out of the
door.
Clara and Carl waited for two hours
until he came back. Finally, he came in and held up a list in his hand.
“I’ve found as many people as I can
that were out that late in the neighborhood.” He declared. Bob read aloud,
“Mrs. Penny, Larry Gram, and Billy Chestnut.”
“Oh, Billy’s so sweet, he’d never
steal anything!” Clara said.
“Yes, but he’s still a suspect,” Bob
said. A knock was heard and Bob opened the door. Four people were standing
there: Mrs. Penny, Larry, Billy, and a little boy.
“I’ve brought them here to question.”
The dectective replied.
“All right,” Carl sighed. “Have a
seat.” Everone sat down.
“Tell me why you where all out last
night at 11:00.” Bob said.
“This is my son, he wanted to come
with me,” Mrs. Penny said, gestering to the boy. Bob nodded. “Well, I needed
groceries last night so I went to the store.”
“Good,” Bob said. “Larry, what about
you?”
“I was picking up a movie at the movie
rental to watch.” Larry told him.
“Billy?”
“I went to a friend’s house,” Billy
said quickly.
“Okay, bring in the witnesses.” Bob
said.
“Witnesses?”
Mrs. Penny exclaimed. A man brought in three people and sat them down.
“Mr. Penny, Billy’s friend, and the
movie rental’s store clerk.” Bob pointed. “Was Billy at your house last night?”
he asked to boy.
“Uh, yeah he was at my house last
night.” The boy answered.
“Was Larry at the movie rental store
at 11:00?”
“Yes, and I can prove it,” said the
clerk. She held up a piece of paper that was Larry’s recipt. Bob examined it.
“Okay,” Bob said. “Mr. Penny, did Mrs.
Penny come home with groceries last night?”
“No,” Mr. Penny said thougtfully.
“Oh?” Bob said.
“Yes! You are the culprit, Mrs. Penny,
I knew it!” Carl yelled.
“Wait!” Mrs. Penny cried. “The reason
I didn’t come home with them is because I had to buy Christmas presents. I
didn’t want anyone to know where they were hidden.” Confessed Mrs. Penny.
“I believe you,” Bob stated.
“But, who stole my kitten?” Carl
asked.
“It wasn’t Mrs. Penny or Larry.” Bob
said slowly. “Billy is the one who stole your kitten!”
“Billy? It can’t be him!” Clara
exclaimed.
“Yes, but I have evidence,” Bob said.
“Follow me everyone,” Bob went out the door to Billy’s house, everyone else
followed him.. Bob opened the door and stepped inside and went into Billy’s
room. Everyone gasped as the open door revealed tiny pawprints of a kitten.
“I got a kitten as an early Christmas
present!” Billy said, trying to throw them off.
“I don’t think so,” Bob said. “Clara,
look in the closet.” Clara did and came out with a fuzzy kitten clutched in her
arms.
“Why did you do it, Billy?” Clara
asked.
“My mom and dad wouldn’t let me have a
kitten, so I stole yours.”
“And to cover up, you payed your
friend here so he’d lie for you.” Bob said.
“How did you know?” Billy asked.
“You and your friend’s voices were too
shakey when you gave your excuses. And I also got your parent’s permission to
search the house, and I saw the pawprints.” Bob explained.
“Thank you, so much for all your help,
Detective Bob!” Clara exclaimed.
