It was December 21, 2004. The alarm rang off in JCPennys. I watched the burglar run like a mad man. Many other shoppers witnessed the crime also. But who was it that had stolen from the store? No one knew. That was the question only detective Burton could solve.

The detective asked many customers what they had seen. He asked me questions also. “ Did you see what the man was wearing ma’am?” the detective asked me.

“Yes, he was wearing jeans and a plain black shirt. He was also wearing a dark stocking cap, therefore preventing me from seeing his face clearly.” I told the detective.

After the detective gathered all the information that he needed, he went searching for the villain in jeans, a black shirt, and a stocking cap. He found two suspects that fit the description. One was named Mike, and the other one was named David. The detective first interrogated them both. “Where were you at approximately 3:40 p.m. today?” the detective asked Mike.

“I was with my wife and my little girls shopping for a new washer and dryer at Sears.” Stated Mike.

            “…And where were you David?”

“Well….” David said still trying to think of what to say, “I was in Sears also, looking for a T.V.”

“The TV’s and washer/dryers are right by each other. Did you two happen to see each other?”

“I never saw David in Sears today.” Mike told the detective seriously. “…And I’ve been in there for over two hours.”

“Well can I see the items you have purchased in the mall today?” asked the detective patiently. Mike showed him his bags and receipts for everything he’d bought. But David on the other hand had no receipts and claimed that he just lost them. The detective took both of them to the room with surveillance cameras and looked very closely at the tapes. David was certainly the villain.

Mike was pressed with no charges and was free to go. But David was charged with a few fees and was taken into the police department. The outfit he stole was returned and was later bought by no other than Mike.
